Chapel at The Master’s University serves as a centerpiece around which the week revolves. Chapel on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday mornings helps shape the rest of the day and the week for students. Whether it’s off to class or the cafeteria or studying or practice in the gym, what is taught and absorbed in chapel reinforces not only what is taught in the classrooms, but helps set the stage for the conversations and discussions that take place in every corner of the campus.
Chapel puts on display Master’s high view of Christ and Scripture. This is a mainstay that hasn’t changed for more than 90 years.
The theme for chapel for the coming school year is Compelling Christianity: The Christian and Culture.
Living a life that displays compelling Christianity involves being the kind of Christian that compels the culture to consider Christ. It means living as a Christian in such a way that makes people want Christianity to be true. It means being winsome and making the gospel irresistible.
First Peter 3:15 says,-* “but sanctify Christ in your hearts, always being ready to make a defense to everyone who asks you to give an account for the hope that is in you, yet with gentleness and reverence.”
The reason the watching world will ask about the hope that is in you is because they see your lifestyle, and watch your actions, and hear your words. When carried out in a compelling way, that causes them to consider Christ.
The focus will be living as a compelling Christian in the culture with humility, charity, integrity, and biblical clarity.
• Fragrant Humility: Humility like the scent of a rose, that refreshes and blesses
• Compassionate Charity: Others-centered kindness that is disarming and heartwarming
• Inspiring Integrity: Nobility and honor that is convicting and infectious
• Biblical Clarity: Clear and compelling biblical convictions, not just opinions
Chapel speakers throughout the year will address foundational biblical qualities inherent in Christian Influence and culturally relevant challenges to Christian influence. Those include sexuality, roles of men and women, alcohol and marijuana, etc.
To be a compelling Christian we need to understand the challenges inherent in some of the cultural issues facing us today. It’s important to know how to discuss these in order to put Christ on display properly so the world will consider Him.
Colossians 4:5-6 says, “Conduct yourselves with wisdom toward outsiders, making the most of the opportunity. Let your speech always be with grace, as though seasoned with salt, so that you will know how you should respond to each person.”
