In what has become an annual tradition since 2011 to start off the new year, The Master’s University’s Winter 5K fun run will once again be taking runners through the beautiful Placerita Canyon area near the campus on January 18, 2025, beginning at 8:30 a.m.
Last year over 250 runners and enthusiasts took to the tree-lined streets and trails around the TMU campus in three different groups, enjoying the cool air, the surroundings and fellowship.
“The Winter 5k has historically been an annual highlight for our Track & Field program,” said TMU Head Coach Daniel Rush. “It has served as a great way to increase awareness of TMU and bring the Santa Clarita community together. I encourage the community to come be involved because it is a fun opportunity to join an environment that promotes exercise and comradery. Come to run and hang out afterwards for fun.”
This year’s course will start on TMU’s north campus, winds through Placerita Canyon and Quigley Canyon Open Space, and will finish at the starting point on north campus. The Master’s University Winter 5K boasts a scenic and entirely flat course with varying terrain, perfect for participants of all ages and abilities. Come experience what local runners have called their “favorite way to start off the new year!”
There are a couple of changes for the run in 2025, most notably two new races — a Kids 1K, and a more competitive 5K race called the 5K Challenge, which will be limited to participants whose goal is to complete the race in under 35 minutes. The traditional 5K Run/Walk will take place immediately following the 5K Challenge. And once again there are eight age-group divisions from pre-teen to 70-plus.
All runners will receive race bibs and timing chips, plus a souvenir t-shirt and medallion at the finish line. Prizes will be awarded to the overall male and female winners of the 5K Challenge.
