How do I know if being an RA is right for me?

An RA should be a servant characterized by the genuine presence and growth of Christlike qualities and character. He/she should be above reproach (an evident pursuit of Christlikeness in word, deed, and reputation), teachable (a desire to follow Residence Life staff and University leadership), loving (a true heart for building relationships with people), insightful and caring (an ability to see the needs of people and to help meet those needs actively), and an initiator (a proven ability to courageously lead and build community among peers)

What are the RA’s responsibilities?

• Discipleship:
  • Meet individually with your RD for guidance and accountability
  • Learn the value of teamwork and team accountability
  • Pursue sanctifying peer relationships with others on campus, especially within your wing
• Leadership and Care:
  • Oversee and lead a weekly small group
  • Meet regularly with your WA(s) for collaboration in wing leadership
  • Assist your RD in utilizing Wing Assistants to serve the dorm best
  • Be available to serve others on the wing consistently
• Training
  • Attend August training retreats and Week of Welcome (WOW)
  • Attend all training meetings September through April
  • Completion of summer preparation assignments
• Administration:
  • Communication with your RD and fellow RAS in the normal operation of your dorm
  • Readiness to help your RD with various tasks and relational responsibilities, including room checks, lounge and chapel duty, etc.
  • Dorm check-ins and check-outs for each semester

How many hours per week are expected for this commitment?

The RA position is an average of 16 hours per week.

Is this a paid position?

Yes, there is a scholarship involved.
