Slight Hall was established in 1978 and named in honor of the long-time chairman of the board of directors, Ralph S. Slight. He was elected to the board in 1946 and named chairman in 1947. He was awarded an honorary Doctor of Divinity degree the same year at commencement exercises. He led the school through many changes, such as moving the campus to Placerita Canyon in 1960. In 1970 he resigned when his family moved to northern California.
Slight is a two-story building with apartment-style dorm rooms. It is laid out in five apartments per wing on both floors. The Resident Director lives in one of the apartments on “Lower-Front”. Another apartment on “Lower-Front” is designated as the Slight Lounge where students can do homework, have jam sessions, watch movies, and much more. Each apartment is divided into a big, front room for three or four students and a small, side room for two students, each with its own air-conditioner. Each apartment has its own spacious shower and restroom. The wings are normally referred to as “Lower-Front,” “Lower-Back,” “Upper-Front,” and “Upper-Back.”
Slight’s sister dorm is Sweazy Hall.
Chill. Diverse. Pancakes.
Mancakes: A weekly event intended to encourage fellowship in Slight once a week over fresh-made pancakes. They offer cooking opportunities for whoever on campus would like to participate. The goal is to teach the men how to serve others and enjoy fellowshipping.
Slight/Sweazy Beach Day: An event at the beginning of the Fall Semester with the intent to start the year off with brother-sister unity. Typically, they go to Carpentaria and enjoy the waves, volleyball, spike-ball, and hanging out together.
Ritz Blitz: A formal, brother-sister event in the spring. Slight and Sweazy dress up for an evening where they enjoy group games such as murder mysteries and game shows, fellowship, and hors-de ’oeuvres.
