Dixon Hall

Dixon was completed in 1990 as part of an expansion project to accommodate the growing student population following Dr. John MacArthur’s arrival as President of the school in 1985. The hall is named after Frank R. Dixon, a generous donor to the college who funded its construction.

Resident Director

Brianna Harris

Brianna Harris is originally from Michigan. She graduated from Wayne State University in 2017 with a B.F.A degree in Graphic Design. She started the Master of Arts in Biblical Counseling program at TMU in 2019. Brianna loves music of all kinds, watching sports, baking, rainy days, hanging with friends, sunsets on the beach, and spending time with her family. Her favorite Bible passages are Psalm 121, Romans 6 and Galatians 2:20.

What is Dixon Hall Like?

Dixon is a two-story building. Between the wings are two lounges, one on each floor. The Resident Director apartment is located on the second story.

The dorm is divided into four wings, two per floor of 10-12 rooms with a large central shower and restroom area on each floor. Laundry facilities are on the first floor. Each room is fully furnished for two students including beds, built-in shelving, drawers, closet space, desks, and an individual heater/air-conditioner unit. The wings are generally referred to as “Upper-East,” “Upper-West,” “Lower-East,” and “Lower-West.”

Dixon’s brother dorm is Waldock Hall.

Three Words to Describe the Dorm?

Creative. Fun. Intentional.

Dorm Traditions?

Dixon Coffeehouse: An event held in the fall and spring. It’s true that there’s usually no coffee, but they make up for it with a fun atmosphere. The girls get to show some of their talents in a variety show that has featured violin playing, singing, and poetry reading.

Pumpkin Carving: An old tradition with their brother dorm, Waldock. Students have one hour to carve a pumpkin to the best of their ability. When time is up, tea lights are lit inside. As the RDs vote, they blow out the candles one by one. The last pumpkin with a lit candle is the winner. Fellowship and pie follow.

Gratitouille: A new tradition for Dixon. Despite the French title, the dorm eats family-style Italian food. Girls love this event as it gives them a chance to experience Thanksgiving a few weeks early with their dorm family. Afterwards, they normally play a Mad Lib game and have opportunities where girls can thank staff and faculty around the campus for all their hard work.

Christmas Caroling: A long-standing tradition of Dixon’s where they go Christmas caroling with Waldock. They sing to the on-campus family and then travel to the neighborhood to help others get into the Christmas spirit. This year, they will be ending the night with hot chocolate and a visit to Candy Cane Lane, a popular neighborhood that decorates their whole cul-de-sac with Christmas lights.
