I was born and raised in a Catholic home in Rancho Cucamonga, California. I knew about Jesus Christ but did not know the Gospel. Attending mass, reading the Bible, and reciting prayers was part of a “to-do list” for me and my family. I had no true desire to know God, so I led my life the way I wanted. It wasn’t until I reached my senior year of high school where I began to understand I was a sinner who needed a Savior. Because of God’s love and grace, I was truly captivated by the Gospel and became a believer in Jesus Christ. I was no longer a Catholic but a Christian. I understood that there is nothing that I can contribute to my salvation. It is a free gift of God by grace through faith (Eph. 2:8-9). I am no longer dead in my sin but alive in Christ (Eph. 2:1-7). After high school, I attended Cal State Los Angeles and majored in film. Two years into my college career, God changed my desires and I decided to pursue Biblical Counseling.
I was very nervous about transferring schools and changing my major because of my fear of the unknown. What drew my attention to TMU the most was its uncompromising commitment to the Word of God. I was fascinated by TMU’s doctrinal statement and the staff and faculty’s commitment to Scripture. After continuous prayer and after speaking to my admissions counselor, I made the transfer. I attended The Master’s for three years and graduated with my Bachelor’s in Biblical Counseling in 2018. Looking back, my time at Master’s was such an important and formative time of my life. Everything I was told about The Master’s University before attending went above and beyond my expectations. My time at TMU was filled with spiritual growth, intentional community, and outstanding classes. I loved how passionate each professor was about the subject they were teaching, but it didn’t compare to how passionate they were about Christ. That passion was seen in every lecture they presented. I felt challenged to understand why I believe what I believe. The professors instilled the knowledge to be able to better discern truth and that what happens in the world does not define Scripture, but that Scripture defines what happens in the world. I had the privilege to meet so many genuine people, getting to know my dorm mates and classmates, and seeing their hearts live for Christ. I left Master’s understanding more about the Lord, leaving with the skill set needed to continue studying God’s word for the rest of my life. After a short break, I also pursued TMU’s Master of Arts in Biblical Counseling (MABC) to further advance my abilities to serve the church and those in need.
I love being an admissions counselor because I get the opportunity to meet students from all over the U.S and get to share the great opportunities The Master’s has to offer. I want students to know how amazing and enriching their experience can be here and want them to enjoy college as much as I did. I desire to be as great of help to you as my admissions counselor was a great help to me.
