Dr. Hedges came to TMU from Trinity International University (Deerfield, IL), where he taught, directed, and served in a variety of administrative roles for twenty-three years. Prior to that he taught (and served as registrar) at North American Baptist College and Edmonton Baptist Seminary (Edmonton, AB) for five years and served as Pastor of Music and Worship at Richview Baptist Church (Toronto, ON) for five years. As an undergraduate he majored in music composition, and his graduate degrees are in music theory, with cognates/minors in conducting, arts administration, and stage direction.

Dr. Hedges is passionate about understanding and explaining music—what it is, why it exists, and how it works. Having taught courses in the theology and practice of worship (and having supervised a number of church music/worship interns), he is also deeply interested in how music functions in the context of congregational worship, which is the subject of his current research and writing.

Dr. Hedges and his wife Pamela have four grown children, two wonderful daughters-in-law, and one baby grandson.
