The Piano Performance with emphasis in Piano Pedagogy Program is for the serious pianist interested in gaining experience and pursuing a career as a piano teacher and performer. Academic rigor and practical experience are combined with a clear understanding of God’s Word and how to utilize one’s musical talents for the glory of God as a performer, teacher, and academic.
Students in this program receive high-level instruction, varied musical experiences, and numerous opportunities for teaching and performance. Students focus on piano teaching internships, recitals, receiving individual instruction in piano, and advanced piano literature.
Music, the art of organizing sound in time, is a universal language given to us by God that expresses thoughts and emotions where words cannot. The faculty of the School of Music at The Master’s University believes in the vital role and purpose of this gift and is privileged to train students to use their musical abilities to the glory of God by developing wisdom, establishing convictions and producing leaders.
All of our faculty and staff affirm our full doctrinal statement, which has remained essentially unchanged since our founding. We believe and teach:
This emphasis enables students to refine their piano teaching skills. They receive comprehensive training in crafting a business plan for a piano teaching studio and shaping effective piano lesson plans that integrate teaching methods, materials, theory, repertoire, and technique. Additionally, they gain expertise in instructing beginner piano students individually and in groups. Aspiring piano pedagogues are encouraged to establish an educational philosophy that embraces a biblical worldview, reflecting their identity as a musician and teacher.

Students in this program receive high-level instruction, varied musical experiences, and numerous opportunities for teaching and performance. Our unique internship program provides an in-depth student teaching experience that offers a more robust, personalized experience compared to other schools around the country. Piano studies are taught from a classical perspective to best aid the pianist in any style they plan to use in their career. Assigned literature is primarily classical and includes sacred solos, concerti, and piano duets/duos. Working in the music publishing industry is a natural fit for Performance with Pedagogy alumni; their coursework gives background and prepares them to evaluate trends in educational music publishing. Our graduates hold membership in organizations such as the Music Teacher’s National Association, California Association of Professional Music Teachers, the National Federation of Music Clubs, and the National Conference on Keyboard Pedagogy. Many alumni own independent piano studios or teach in local music schools around the country and have award-winning students.
