This was the first dorm constructed when the university moved to its current location in the 1960s. It was dedicated on April 30, 1965, to Dr. Herbert Hotchkiss, “No man ever deserved to be memorialized in connection with an educational institution more than Herbert Hotchkiss.”
Reagan and his wife, Julie, originally moved from Oregon to Los Angeles in 2017 to attend TMU as students. Reagan is pursuing an M.Div at The Master’s Seminary. His goal is to enter full-time pastoral ministry—but currently loves to teach weekly in a home bible study in his local church. As a TMU student, Reagan and his wife were both in Hotchkiss and served as RAs. One of his biggest goals as an RD is to help students grow from young men to devoted churchmen and family men. Reagan and Julie have two incredible sons, both under 3—Ransom and Judah. His favorite Psalm is Psalm 16—“In Your presence is fullness of joy; In Your right hand there are pleasures forever.”
Born and raised in So-Cal, Julie graduated from TMU with her bachelor’s degree in biblical counseling. During her time as a student, she loved soaking up everything college life at TMU had to offer in her classes, dorm life, IBEX, and RA/WA positions. When the opportunity opened for Julie to come on staff as a Resident Director, she was excited to invest into the students as she had been invested in. Julie loves handing out with people and adventuring. On the weekends you’ll find her out with friends, trying new coffee shops, going on walks, at the beach, taking CrossFit classes or spending time with friends or family. Julie has both her ACBC certification and master’s degree in biblical counseling and enjoys using her training both at church and in work opportunities as they arise.
Hotchkiss Dorm is a two-story building in the shape of an “H.” The lounge is a great place to build relationships, hang out, play board games, study, play ping pong, and have movie nights. The RDs love having the students over in their apartments for fun and fellowship. We love using our “Hotchyard” in the back for events and hangouts. There is a central lounge on the first story and two apartments for the Resident Directors on the second story. There are eight wings, four men’s and four women’s—“Upper-Back,” “Upper-Front,” “Lower-Back,” and “Lower-Front”—divided by the lounge (lower) and by the Resident Directors’ apartments (upper). The wings are equipped with several showers, restrooms, and laundry facilities. Each dorm room is fully furnished for two students and includes beds, built-in shelving, drawers, closet space, and desks. The rooms have individual heater/air-conditioner units.
Family. Tradition. Heart.
Apple Pie Night: Throughout the day students gather in the RDs apartments making roughly 50 pies. Then in the evening after classes the whole dorm gathers in the Hotchyard for an evening of pie-eating, apple-bopping, pumpkin carving and community fun! This is a quintessential Hotchkiss tradition!
Park Day: In the fall the entire dorm fathers at a local park for an evening of games, dinner, and ice cream. This is a great way to start the year out and build friendships.
Hotchkiss Luau: The final dorm event at Dockweiler Beach, every April, where they play games, have a sandcastle competition, grill, make s’mores, and crown the Hotchkiss King and Queen. Mistletoe Madness: The annual Christmas Ping Pong tournament! Whether you are skilled in the mastery of table tennis or not, it’s one of our most unifying dorm events that lasts a whole week.
Men’s Meat and Greet: Reagan loves to invite all the guys to his apartment to eat 20lbs of tri-tip. The best way to enjoy fellowship is with tasty meat.
