I’m originally from El Salvador and grew up Catholic. Shortly after my conversion in 2014, the Lord put me in a position where I was giving advice to young people for various problems in their lives. It was then that I realized that I had to prepare myself. I was looking into getting a master’s degree in psychology since at that point I had never heard about biblical counseling. I was not as solid doctrinally, but clearly, God had greater plans.
While I was searching for universities, the Lord placed a friend in my life that was in a doctrinally sound church who pointed me to biblical counseling. At first, my reaction was a little skeptical “how is the Bible going to help with these big problems that people have?”
But this idea resonated with me. Through the Lord’s providence, I did a Google search and found The Master’s University. After that, the Lord opened the opportunity to start my MABC at this wonderful place. From day one, every part of the program taught me about God and His sufficient Word to address every matter in life and grew me with confidence in using the Word of God to help others have the same type of eternal change.
When I started the program, I was sure I wanted to use the training to serve my Hispanic people. As I was finishing the MABC, the Lord in His sovereignty and purposes provided me a job at ACBC where I serve the Hispanic community as we provide certification and resources in Spanish.
This program exceeded my expectations because, in everything, it pointed me to Christ, it taught me hermeneutics, and it showed me the hope of real lasting change that can only come from Him. It taught me that biblical counseling is not about me or my abilities but Christ, His work of redemption, and eternal life.
I am very thankful for my parents’ support, my professors, and my church family. All glory be to Christ as we expand certification to these countries!
