At No. 16, The Master's College Lady Mustangs entered unchartered territory Tuesday as they made their maiden voyage into the Top 25 since joining the Golden State Athletic Conference (GSAC) a decade ago. The strong reputation of GSAC volleyball held true to form in the first edition of the 2012 Tachikara-NAIA Volleyball Coaches' Top 25 poll with four ranked teams. Representing the GSAC are No. 2 Concordia, No. 4 Biola, No. 9 Westmont (Calif.) and The Master's College.
Mustang volleyball has been recognized and rewarded for its quality play during the first ten matches of the season in which TMC knocked off two ranked opponents en route to a 9-1 start.
Seven teams that were not ranked in the preseason poll, No. 11 Doane (Neb.), No. 12 Oklahoma Baptist, No. 13 College of Idaho, No. 16 The Master's (Calif.), No. 19 Eastern Oregon, No. 22 Midland (Neb.), and No. 24 Lubbock Christian (Texas), all made the jump into the Top 25 week one poll. Making the biggest splash was Doane as it moved to No. 11 after not being in the preseason Top 25.
The poll was voted upon by a panel of head coaches representing each of the conferences and Independents. The second regular-season poll will be announced on Sept. 11.
Notes: TMC defeated Cal State San Marcos in front of a packed house back on August 21st in its season opener...at the time, San Marcos was ranked No. 23 and now they have risen to tenth in the country... Lewis-Clark State (Idaho), the other ranked team defeated by TMC, dropped out of the poll and broke a string of 36 straight Top 25 nods... Concordia (Calif.) has the longest active streak in the Top 25, appearing in 74 straight polls and right behind the Eagles is Biola (Calif.) with a skein of 73 straight polls... Seven teams in the Top 25 remain undefeated. The Master's College has four more non-conference matches before beginning GSAC play on Saturday, September 15th at home against No. 4 Biola.
