Volleyball Championship Pool Play Announced

November 18, 2012

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - (Pool Play Bracket) (Championship) The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) has released the pool assignments and schedule for the 2012 NAIA Volleyball National Championship finals.   Presented by CNOS Foundation, twelve National Championship Opening Round winners meet up with 12 teams with byes and invade the Tyson Events Center/Gateway Arena in Sioux City, Iowa, from Nov. 27 - Dec. 1.

Under the leadership of third-year head coach Bobby Blanken, the Mustangs posted a 26-5 regular-season record (10-4 in conference play), earned a No. 6 spot in the NAIA's final regular-season Top 25 Poll, and qualified for their first-ever appearance at the upcoming NAIA Volleyball National Championship.

Blanken and the Mustangs will open up pool play on November 27 in a 5:45 PM (CST) match against CSU San Marcos. The Mustangs battled the Cougars twice in their regular season, beating them 3-1 in both showings.

The next day (Nov. 28), the Lady Mustangs are scheduled at 5:45 PM (CST) to face-off against Viterbo University  (La Crosse, Wisconsin). The V-Hawks went 32-7 during their regular season schedule, including a 5-1 dominating record within their conference.

And finally, TMC will match-up against the Indiana Wesleyan Wildcats on Thursday, November 29, at 8:00 PM (CST).  The Wildcats finished their regular season schedule with a sparkling 35-2 record.

Should the Mustangs make it past their pool, there is a great chance that they will run into some familiar faces in their championship chase.

The Golden State Athletic Conference (GSAC) will send three other programs to Sioux City along with the Mustangs: Biola, Concordia (Calif.), and Westmont. Besides Westmont, the other three teams have combined to win 95 championship matches. Biola is second amongst the qualifiers in all-time playoffs wins with a 42-21 record.
