SANTA CLARITA, Calif. - Ranked #8 in the NAIA, The Master’s College Lady Mustangs, led by assistant coach Sean Carter, defeated San Diego Christian College (4-11, 2-5 GSAC) Saturday night in three sets (25-20, 25-21, 25-16). Head coach Bobby Blanken was absent with his wife Sarah, as the two were welcoming their newborn daughter to the world.
In the first set, the Mustangs and the Hawks traded leads, but TMC prevailed and won the first set 25-20. Of the Mustangs’ collective 42 kills of the evening, 16 of them were produced in the first set.
The Mustangs maintained their lead in the final two stanzas. Ending game two with a score of 25-21 and the third at 25-16, the evening's match concluded bringing TMC's overall record to 19-3 and 5-2 in conference play.
When asked about the game, Carter responded, “the girls did a great job tonight, executing the game plan that [Coach Blanken] had drawn up for us... I’m super excited that he got to watch some of the match online. We are excited about the team’s ranking, I think it’s the highest the team has been. We have aspirations to be in the top tier; we can do it with the way we played tonight.”
Leaders in tonight’s game against the Hawks were Sam Dougherty (Madera, CA) with 12 kills, and Britney Jones (Northridge, CA) with seven. TMC claimed three blocks and finished with an attack percentage of .365 against SDCC as well.
The Mustangs will now take a breather and rest as their next scheduled match is October 16th against La Sierra University Golden Eagles. Match time is scheduled for 7:00 PM in Riverside.
