Scarlet Hawks Swept

IRVINE, Calif. – The Master’s College women’s volleyball squad lifted its season record to 8-1 as it cruised past the Scarlet Hawks of Illinois Tech in three sets (25-21, 25-10, 25-13) on the second day of the ASICS/Wyndham Hotel Labor Day Classic at Concordia University in Irvine.
The Mustangs took the first set on the strength of two 4-0 runs and capitalized on a multitude of Scarlet Hawk errors. TMC adjusted defensively to Illinois Tech’s responsive attacks and took the first set at 25-21. TMC’s Sam Dougherty (Madera, CA) contributed to the first set with seven kills and eventually finished the day with 20 kills and a .586 hitting percentage.
The Lady Mustangs continued the momentum from their game one victory, jumping out to leads of 6-0 and later 20-6 in the second game. Finishing off the set at 25-10, the Mustangs collectively notched 14 kills, an impressive one error, and a hitting percentage of .542.
Set three carried the Mustangs' dominant presence as they secured the match with a 25-13 win. The third set featured three sets of 4-0 runs, and one 3-0 skein. Dougherty notched an impressive six kills which helped secure the Mustangs' third set win and eighth match victory of the season.
TMC had little time to rest after the match as the team faced the UC Merced Bobcats later that day at 5:00 PM.
