IRVINE, Calif. – Ranked #8, the TMC Lady Mustangs (18-3, 4-2 GSAC) challenged No. 2 Concordia (19-0, 6-0 GSAC) on the Eagles’ home court Thursday evening in Irvine.
Standout performances on behalf of the Lady Mustangs came from Sam Dougherty (Madera, CA), with 11 kills, Aubrey Bekendam (Orland, CA) with 21 assists, and Rebecca Peluffo (La Crescenta, CA) with 14 digs.
The Mustangs galloped to an early lead, winning the first set to the tune of 25-23. The Eagles turned the tide during the second set winning 25-19. The third and fourth frames went to Concordia as the Eagles routed the Mustangs 25-10 in the third, and 25-15 in the fourth.
Despite the 3-1 loss, TMC notched 31 kills, 30 assists, 53 digs, and finished with an attack percentage of .069
The Lady Mustang coaching staff and players took away from the evening’s GSAC showdown a lesson that significant growth will be necessary for a desired deep run in the playoffs.
The Mustangs will return home and continue their 2012 campaign on Saturday night when they take on GSAC foe San Diego Christian (4-10, 2-4 GSAC) in a 7:00pm matchup.
