CLAREMONT, Calif -- The Lady Mustangs competed at the Pomona-Pitzer Invitational Saturday afternoon on Strehle Track in Claremont, CA.

The meet got off to an exciting start with Ayla Draper racing the 400m hurdles.  With a quick start coming out of the blocks, Draper looked smooth from start to finish.  Having narrowly missed hitting an NAIA National Qualifying mark just two weeks ago at the Cal-Nev Championships, Draper entered Saturday’s race poised and focused.  Proving she definitely belongs at the national meet, Ayla ran a strong race, crossing the line in 63.59, securely under the qualifying standard, which is also a new lifetime best and school record.  Draper is excited to join her teammates as they travel to Marion, Indiana for the NAIA Outdoor Track and Field National Championships at the end of May.

KGrahamRunning.jpgHannah Kellerman and Katrina Graham represented the Lady Mustangs in the 1500m on Saturday.  Kellerman competed in the first and fastest of six heats.  Going out hard with the rest of the field, Kellerman suffered the second half of the race finishing with a time of 4:52.25. Katrina Graham ran well in her debut in the 1500m.  Coming through the first 300m very fast, Graham managed to hang on and run 4:57; a great effort for a 10,000m runner’s first attempt in the 1500.

Kristen Parsons and Jessica Hawley finished off the night for the women competing in separate heats of the 5k.  Noteworthy was Hawley’s demonstration of exceptional progression throughout the season, improving on her personal best by over fifteen seconds.

On Thursday, Hannah Kellerman will compete at the Twilight Invitational, hosted by Cal State LA; this an opportunity for Kellerman to close in on a national qualifying mark in the 1500m, as well as prepare for a big race at the GSAC Championships where she will look to chase down All-Conference honors in the event.
