CLAREMONT, Calif. – On a rainy April Saturday, The Master’s College men’s track & field team battled the elements and posted impressive results at the 2016 Pomona-Pitzer Invitational.
Kicking off the day in the 100 meter dash, Andrew Sanchez led the Mustangs with a time of 11.19 seconds, while Samuel Jaimes finished with a time of 11.41, and Jacob Ortiz clocked a time of 11.51.
The aforementioned trio also competed in the 200 meter dash where Sanchez clocked a time of 22.45, Ortiz finished at 22.82, and Jaimes ran the event at 23.24.
In the 400 meter dash, Sanchez barely missed the NAIA’s “B” standard for the event (48.50) by finishing at 48.67. Ortiz clocked a final time of 52.43.
The duo of Tim Gutierrez and Joshua Sherfey competed in the 800 meter run where they bagged times of 2:02.46 and 2:08.72, respectively.
Later on, Sherfey, Gutierrez, and Skyler Mikesell competed in the 1,500 meter run. Sherefy finished the race with a time of 4:13.30, while Gutierrez was close behind with a final time of 4:13.81. Notably, Mikesell clocked a respectable time of 4:18.25.
In the 5,000 meter run, Andrew Orona paced TMC with a final time of 15:27.45, while Ryan Freeman was close behind with a time of 15:55.48.
Finally, Noah Frizzell represented the Mustangs in the high jump by clearing 1.75 meters.
Now, after a few short days of rest, the Mustangs will be back in action on Thursday at the prestigious Mt. Sac Relays at Cerritos College Stadium in Norwalk.
