Jamestown Jimmies A Shutout
August 22, 2013
Salt Lake City, UT -- George Gauld scored with just under five minutes left to play and No. 16 Jamestown (ND) went on to shut out The Master's College 1-0 Thursday afternoon in the season opener for the Mustangs at the Westminster Tournament in Salt Lake City, Utah.
Gauld's game-winning shot, capping off a 5-2 shots on goal advantage for the Jimmies, came off a cross from teammate Dominic O'Connor and beat Mustang goalie Kyle Cunningham (Saugus, CA) from eight yards out with 4:40 remaining. The Mustangs had no response the rest of the way and dropped their opener for the second year in a row.
Both of the Mustangs' shots on goal came in the first half off the feet of sophomore midfielder Joey Mikulas (Monument, CO) and sophomore forward Austin Rochow (Canyon Country, CA) who fired shots at the 25:36 and 28:23 marks, respectively, that were saved by Jimmie goalie Stephen Harris.
Cunningham, who was tagged with the loss, registered two saves while fellow goalie Christian Bryant (Plymouth, MI) equaled that total while holding the Jimmies scoreless over the first 45 minutes.
The Mustangs will take Friday off before finishing off their season-opening trip to Utah on Saturday when they play host Westminster.
