SAN MARCOS, Calif. – Before The Master’s College men’s golf team hung up their clubs for the winter, head coach Jason Semelsberger and his squad wanted to make a lasting impression on the NAIA.

At the conclusion of the CSU San Marcos Fall Classic, TMC placed 2nd out of a field of 10 teams, backed by a collective score of 883 (298-294-291).

In the process, the No. 14 nationally ranked Mustangs edged tournament host and 3rd-ranked CSU San Marcos by a single stroke (884).

“We’re never satisfied with finishing second,” said Semelsberger. “But, I am very pleased with the progress we are making. We beat a great CSU San Marcos team, and I’m excited to see how we’ll do in the spring.”

Leading the Mustangs’ efforts was Thane Ringler (Hutchinson, KS), tying for fourth overall at two-under 214 (75-72-67).  Not far behind was Nolan Sand (Hoquiam, WA), who tied for 14th place with an overall score of 222 (71-76-75).

“Overall, I was really happy with the team’s performance,” further assessed Semelsberger.  “In particular, I was excited to see Josh Oakes produce strong results. He really aided our second-place finish.”

Oakes (Murrieta, CA) earned an overall score of 237 (82-80-75), placing 44th out of a field of 58 competitors.

Now, the Mustangs will enjoy a four-month break before competing again February 3-4 at the CSU San Marcos Spring Invite.  The two-day event will take place at the Shadowridge Country Club in Vista.

“We’re excited to take a little break, work out, and focus our efforts for our spring schedule,” commented Semelsberger.  “I’m excited to see how we will do when we return to play.”
