MONROE, Ore. – The Master’s College made its first victory of the season count as the squad captured the NAIA Cascade Collegiate Conference/Golden State Athletic Conference title at the Diamond Woods Golf Course, in Monroe, Oregon.
With the win, the No. 11 nationally ranked Mustangs earned an automatic bid to the NAIA National Championships in May. The tournament will run May 14-17 at the Creekside Golf Course in Salem, Oregon.
As a team, the Mustangs carded an overall score of 913 (314-305-294), 18 strokes better than Warner Pacific of Oregon which was tied for first with TMC at the end of yesterday’s second round.
Thane Ringler (Hutchinson, KS) tied for third place with a score of 10-over 226 (79-74-73). Andrew Bergoon (Mobile, AL) finished sixth with a score of 228 (81-75-72), while Michael Reitz (Denver, CO) tied for eighth with final score of 230 (78-78- 74). John Lawson (Mobile, AL) and Nolan Sand (Hoquiam, WA) tied for 13th by carding a pair for 235s.
Ringler and Lawson both notched seven birdies. Ringler led the squad by draining 33 pars, while Retiz and Bergoon tallied 31 each. As a team, the Mustangs made 30 birdies and 150 pars.
“Praise the Lord!” exclaimed sixth-year Mustang golf head coach Jason Semelsberger. “We finished very well today by winning our first tournament of the year and are now looking forward to the NAIA National Championships.”
The Mustangs have a little under a month to prepare for the national tournament. It will be their seventh team appearance in the history of the program.
