IRVINE, Calif. – On Saturday, The Master’s College men’s cross country team showed up big at the NAIA West Coast Jamboree both individually and as a team.
The 17th-ranked Mustangs placed a high second only behind No. 9 ranked Cal State San Marcos and beat the neighboring conference teams by a large margin.
In the men’s race, senior Matthew Crichton (Mission Viejo, CA) closed hard for the Mustangs finishing seventh overall with a time of 25 minutes and 46 seconds for the 8,000 course. The duo of freshman Joshua Sherfey (Stevenson Ranch, CA) and junior John Hurd (Fairview, PA) finished side-by-side placing 13th and 14th with times of 26:00 and 26:03. The overall gap between the Mustang’s number one and five was only 49 seconds which helped aid their inevitable top finish as a team.
“The men went into today knowing what they had to do and did exactly that which was competing together with nobody backing down. The strength of our men’s team is their work ethic and unity and as a result worked harder than any other team in conference. I’m really happy with how the guys are running and look forward to their championship racing which will be the best they have. We look posed to claim our fourth straight conference title and there are only a few teams that have ever had a run of success that we’ve seen and we are humbled to keep working hard for the Lord,” stated Head Cross Country Coach Zachary Schroeder.
The Mustangs are just two weeks away from the GSAC Championships, one of their most climactic races so far this season, on Saturday, November, 9, 2013 at 9:00 a.m. on Vanguard’s home course in Costa Mesa.
