SANTA CLARITA, Calif. – Not much went right for The Master’s College men’s basketball team Tuesday night against the Claremont Stags.

At the end of the meeting, Claremont (2-0), who sits in the upper echelons of the NCAA Division III, bested TMC 68-56 and held the Mustangs to a 44.7% (21-47) shooting percentage.

“Claremont outplayed us and deserved the victory,” assessed head coach Chuck Martin of the Mustangs’ performance.

However, there were a couple of silver linings in wake of the loss.

The first is that the squad’s newly-minted 3-2 record remains above the .500 mark entering into a tough four-game road schedule beginning this Thursday at 7:00 p.m. against U.C. Merced (1-5).

Another bright spot is that the Mustangs earned a 75% shooting percentage on free throws by going 9-12 behind the line.  Jason Logan (Spartansburg, SC) was perfect by going 5-5, while Dominique Lanier (Lakewood, CA) followed at 3-3.

Zach Stalin (Bellingham, WA) led the Mustangs in scoring with 20 points, shooting 8-12 from the field and going 3-4 behind the arc.

In addition, TMC yanked down 24 rebounds, produced 9 assists, forced 9 turnovers, and grabbed 3 steals against the Stags.

Having yet to play a road game, Martin and his Mustangs will look to right the ship this Thursday in Merced, followed by away games against Cal Maritime, Menlo, and Simpson, respectively.

The squad will continue their home slate on Friday, December 13 in a 7:00 p.m. game against Simpson at Bross Court.
